Sexy eDetailing

by Jane Chin, Ph.D. on December 5, 2005

In response to John Mack’s Coming Soon: Sexy eDetailing? and Hsien Lei’s Jerry Hall, Bayer Healthcare’s Global Ambassador for Erectile Dysfunction – apparently and understandably a very popular topic.

I can just see it now:

“Drug Companies Entice Docs with Internet P0rn!”
by Jane Chin posing as a nationally syndicated journalist

As drug companies see profits and physician access decline, they are shifting their strategies from agents of deception to agents of temptation – right through the internet. 6 months after Jerry Hall
came on the national scene spouting wonders of Levitra, Pfizer and Eli Lilly have unleashed their super spokesmodels and pop stars, hoping to redirect physicians desires to their ED drugs and using Internet “detailing” to stream videos right to the physicians’ computers.

“I think this is just despicable!” said a 65-year old patient, whom we will call Bob. “You can’t even put Britney Spears in the same league as Jerry Hall and Anna Nicole Smith. I don’t appreciate my doctor giving me free Cialis samples when I wanted free Levitra samples.”

Public Citizen has declared this a national state of emergency, and threatened to write the FDA ten letters a week instead of its normal one complaint a week. Some anti-industry activist groups are contacting the FCC and NBC in their attempt to air drug companies’ “dirty” laundry.

Neither drug company CEOs nor PhRMA may be reached for comment.

Maybe I should save this in case some newspaper wants to buy the rights to it down the road.

Yes, I created the new category Pharma.Pharce . Sometimes these things are so thick they’ve become humorous.
